Map & Clean Waste on Forestway Road
Time: 2:00-3:00 pm (duration of 1 hour)
Location: Forest Way Rd, Belrose NSW 2085
(From Wyatt-Forestway intersection to Belrose Bunnings)
What will we do?
We will MAP waste along Forestway Road using free and simple mapping tools. We will CLEAN Forestway Rd by removing rubbish along the roadside and in the surrounding bushes. For rubbish that is too difficult or unsafe to remove, we will photograph it and put the photos on a digital map.
Why join?
If you are tired of standing by and watching rubbish accumulate around us, join us and ACT together!
By mapping and cleaning waste, we help make the problem visible and measurable, supporting advocacy for better prevention and government led cleanup actions.
How does it work?
Just bring your phone and enthusiasm. We will provide gloves and rubbish bags and clear instructions on how to map using open source, free tools.
We will use simple, familiar messaging apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, or Signal, together with tools from the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT, www.hotosm.org), including:
Chatmap (chatmap.hotoms.org)
uMap (umap.hotosm.org)
No prior experience is needed, we will show you everything.
Who is this for?
Anyone who wants to help keep our neighborhoods cleaner: local residents, families and individuals, students, truly anyone.
Anyone interested in learning how to map local challenges using free and open source tools
Come along, learn to map, help clean, and make a real difference in your community!
Meeting point?
We have two meeting points, depending on your location:
1. at the Bunnings: meetup at front door
2. at the Wyatt Avenue/ Forestway intersection:
meetup at the carpark in front of Belrose schoolat this location: Open in Google Maps
We will depart at 2pm to meet each other halfway along the route.
Looking forward to solving this waste challenge, together!
