Finally, AI is only as good as the honesty and fairness built into it; it must be designed to be accurate and accountable to the people who use it.

Helena Moniz is a leading European expert in Machine Translation, Computational Linguistics, and Responsible AI. She currently serves as:
• President of the European Association for Machine Translation
• Chair of the Ethics Committee at the Center for Responsible AI
• Board Member of the International Speech Communication Association (Awards & Ethics)
• Visiting Research Fellow at the UNESCO Chair in Translating Cultures
• Assistant Professor at the University of Lisbon, where she teaches Computational Linguistics and Machine Translation
With over two decades of experience in international research projects, Helena has worked at the intersection of language, technology, and ethics, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams of linguists and AI engineers. She has led major initiatives in linguistic quality evaluation, responsible AI systems, and cultural transcreation, and has contributed to more than 20 national and international research projects. She also serves on editorial and advisory boards of leading scientific journals and conferences in AI and speech technologies.
