Open Ears invites you to a listening session on the theme of Wedding Sangeeth - bring field recordings, phone recordings, wedding bangers with stories, and anything we can listen to! 5-10 Minutes long.
Often layered with multiple meanings, emotions and histories, wedding music throughout South Asia serves as secret repositories of stories. Told through song, dance, theatre, and space-making, this mode preserves a sonic imprint of a patriarchal institution and the resistances within. Let‘s collectively lean in and try to hear the echoes of the fight and joy within these pieces. Dress code: You are greatly encouraged to show off your best wedding style (minding the weather of course).
