About Event

This event is in person only

Mental Health Social Justice Network & Subtexts have come together for this collaboration :

Marlon Miguel researcher & co-editor of Falatório/Chatter
Wanderley Santos interpersonal psychodynamic psychotherapist

Friday, 15th May 2026 - 6 pm to 8 pm
Black & White Room, BLOC, Arts One building, Queen Mary, E1 4PD - London

This event will explore how Stella do Patrocínio’s (1941–1992) speech and Arthur Bispo do Rosário’s (1909–1989) creations defied the logics of the psychiatric institution, Colônia Juliano Moreira in Rio de Janeiro, in which they were both incarcerated for the majority of their lives.

Beginning with a short video recording of Do Patrocínio’s falatório, we will invite all attendees to join us in reading aloud extracts from Falatório/Chatter (ICI Berlin Press, 2025). The book’s co-editor, Marlon Miguel and psychotherapist Wanderley Santos will consider Do Patrocínio’s resistance alongside that of Arthur Bispo do Rosário. All event participants are encouraged to come in with questions and reflections as we read together. MHSJN member Paola Debellis Alvarez will facilitate.

The event will open at 6 pm and run until 8 pm. No advance reading is required; print-outs will be provided to read aloud together during the event. Snacks and drinks will also be provided, and attendees are welcome to stay until 9 pm to continue the discussion informally.

You can access the full text of Falatório/Chatter here: https://www.ici-berlin.org/publications/falatorio-chatter/

We are grateful to the Feminist Duration Reading Group (FDRG), from whom we learned the group-reading dynamic we will be using for this event.
