3RD ST CREATIVE ARTERY is happy to be welcoming multi-faceted and multi-talented NICK JAINA back to Bldg 12. In 2025 Nick created improvised accompaniments to poetry readings at Bldg 12 as part of Ferlinghetti Day 2025. One of them became a track called Pier 70 on his latest album.
This time, Nick will be playing music, reading poetry, and projecting films in conjunction with his new book Abrazo, which is an exploration of the affection missing in the world. Nick plays gorgeous electric guitar soundscapes, samples the music to read over it, and then merges into a song, all while beautiful videos from the streets of Mexico City flicker behind him. It is a uniquely hopeful experience of soul and body.

NICK JAINA was an Oregon Book Award finalist in 2015 for his memoir Get It While You Can, which is now in its third printing. His writing has appeared in Atlantic Monthly, McSweeney's Quarterly and the journal Oregon Humanities. He has released many wonderful albums under his own name, including 2025’s The Monster Mash. He co-founded and was music director for a ballet company in New York City called Satellite that involved dancers from Juilliard and the New York City Ballet and performed at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, garnering praise from The New York Times. He has composed scores for feature films and documentaries, including All Sorts, Cement Suitcase, and Elemental: Reimagine Wildfire. www.nickjaina.com

This is the latest installment of 3RD ST CREATIVE ARTERY’s series called HEAR, HERE! Attentive listening is an exchange that requires intentionally making space to make it possible. For this series, we turn the viewing deck into an experimental listening room, with sounds, performances, readings, and music…and build community in the process.
The intention of these gatherings is to amplify the efforts and outputs of artists, creators, makers, movers, and shakers that have a connection to 3RD ST and to create opportunities to gather in the name of creativity and community.
We're between exhibits, so we thought we'd have this one in our exhibit space, instead of "on the deck" and we'll use the gallery walls for moving images.
