10 Choices: Assembling Your First Poetry Collection with Brittany Rogers

​The writing and publishing process for first books can feel mysterious. For example, how do you choose a publisher? How do you know when it's finished? How much editing is too much? Which poems should you select?

​In this 90-minute intensive, poet Brittany Rogers will use her own collection Good Dress to walk us through the practical steps of building a book—from titling it and ordering the poems to finding a publisher. Together, we'll demystify the process and lead you one step closer to your debut!

• ​I'm unable to join live. Will the event be recorded?
  Yes! The event will be recorded and shared with ticket-holders via email the following day. The recording will be available for 30 days after the workshop.

• ​How can I participate during the event?
  You will be joining a Zoom Meeting for this event. We encourage you to have your camera on, but remain muted until prompted. We also recommend that you come prepared with writing materials!

• ​I live outside the U.S. Can I still join?
  Yes! We have many international members in Sustenance. We'd love to see you there no matter where you're tuning in from.

​Brittany Rogers is a multidisciplinary artist, educator, and lifelong Detroiter. She is Editor-in-Chief of Muzzle Magazine and author of Good Dress (Tin House, 2024), a finalist the NAACP Image Award and the Lambda Literary Award for Bisexual Poetry, among others. Brittany is a 2026 Whiting Award winner.
