​AI systems are increasingly used to support decisions in real-world products, organizations, and high-impact environments. But when a model gives an answer, one key question remains:

​What actually happened inside the black box?

​In this online talk, Janaína Ribas de Amaral from Airbus Defence and Space will explore how Explainable AI can help us better understand, evaluate, and trust machine learning systems.

​The session will focus on the role of explainability in building trustworthy AI. We will discuss how XAI techniques can help uncover hidden biases, diagnose model errors, and support transparency and fairness requirements shaped by AI regulations.

​Beyond technical accountability, the talk will also look at why meaningful explanations matter for end users, especially in sectors where safety, compliance, and certification are essential.

​About the speaker

​Janaína Ribas de Amaral is an AI Trustworthiness Expert at Airbus Defence and Space. She works on the preparation of certification of AI applications and is an active member of EUROCAE WG-114, the working group responsible for developing the standard for the development and certification of aeronautical AI-based systems.
