Build a Web App With Me on Claude Code or Codex
Everyone has an idea they have never had time to build.
What if you just started it, tonight, with the room?
You have probably already got the desktop app. Most people are using a small fraction of what is in it.
In this session I'll cover:
- Annotate, plan mode, design starter packs.
Annotate alone changes the job: you point at the thing you want changed instead of trying to describe it in words.
So this one is hands-on. Bring a laptop and the idea you keep describing to people, and we will spend two hours building it.
Me building alongside you, on my own machine, at the same time.
Whether you're a founder, operator or functional leader who keeps dreaming up tools that never get built, join us to stop thinking and start building.
You do not need to be technical. Most of this room is not.
More About the Session
Led by Keith Teo (Host, AI Power Users)
"GETTING SET UP"
We all get set up together, on whichever tool you already pay for.
Installed, signed in, pointed at a project folder, first prompt sent. Nobody moves on until the room is at the same starting line.
"THE PARTS YOU ARE NOT USING"
Three features most people never find, and all three matter for what we are about to do:
Annotate. Point at the thing you want changed instead of writing a paragraph describing it.
Plan mode. Make it think the whole approach through before it writes a single line, instead of charging ahead and leaving you to untangle it.
Design starter packs. Start from something that already looks polished, rather than the default look everyone recognises on sight.
These three are Claude Code, so that is what the walkthrough runs on. If you are building on Codex you are still welcome, and the building itself works the same either way. You will be watching that bit rather than clicking along with it, so bring Claude Code if you have the choice.
If you already use the desktop app every day, this is the part worth coming for.
"BUILDING, TOGETHER"
Then we build. You work on your idea, I work on mine, out loud, and we go through the same steps at the same time. When something breaks, and it will, we read the error together and fix it.
That loop matters more than any single prompt. Getting something working, changing it, watching it break, reading what went wrong and getting it back is the whole skill.
WHAT YOU WILL AND WILL NOT LEAVE WITH
Being straight with you: two hours is not enough to finish and deploy a product, and I am not going to pretend otherwise. Most likely, nothing you build on Friday is going live that night.
What you will leave with however, is your tool set up and working, a real start on YOUR idea running locally on your own laptop, and enough of the loop that you can keep going without me.
WHAT TO BRING
This one is hands-on, so there is a little homework:
Your laptop, fully charged, plus your charger. Mac or Windows both fine. A phone or tablet WILL NOT work for this one.
Claude Code or Codex, already installed and signed in. Pick whichever you already pay for, though the feature walkthrough runs on Claude Code, so bring that if you have the choice. Both need a paid plan, so a free account will not get you through the night. Sort this out before Friday.
Do the download at home. If forty of us install on the venue wifi at 6:30, we lose half the session.
One idea you have never had time to build. This is the important one. Small and real beats clever. An internal tool, a tracker, a calculator, the thing you keep doing by hand.
Stuck on any of the above? Say so in the WhatsApp community and someone will get you sorted before Friday.
Note: There is no dinner this time.
Past meetups had food. This one does not. We run from 1830 to 2100, straight through dinner, so please sort out your own dinner before you arrive.
THE EVENING
1800 - 1830: Registration & Mingle
1830 - 1910: Getting set up, and the parts you are not using
1910 - 2030: Building together, with questions throughout
2030 - 2100: Show what you started, networking & mingle
Note: The building uses a self-registration kiosk on Level 1, so give yourself 5 extra minutes on arrival. Seats are limited and hence subject to approval, so do register early.
ORGANISER: AI POWER USERS ⚡️
AI Power Users is a Singapore community for people putting AI to work. We meet fortnightly. Founders, operators and anyone whose job just changed, learning from people doing the work rather than from a vendor deck.
