Open Langa 2025: A Car-Free Celebration by Langa Bicycle Hub
On Sunday, 26 October 2025, the streets of Langa will come alive as Open Streets returns home after many years transforming King Langalibalele Drive (between Bhunga Avenue and Jungle Walk) and Lerotholi Avenue into vibrant, car-free public spaces.
From 12h00 to 17h00, everyone is invited to walk, cycle, skate, dance, play, and celebrate the spirit of community and urban life.
Hosted by Langa Bicycle Hub that happened to land during Design Week South Africa’s, Open Langa 2025 is a non-commercial, community-led initiative championing streets as places for people.
The day will also mark the launch of weekly street closures on Lerotholi Avenue, inspired by the success of Bree St Sunday, creating new opportunities for local life, public art, and active mobility in Cape Town’s oldest township.
The Active Mobility Forum (AMF) and partners will organise a BikeBus will depart from the Cape Town CBD via Observatory and Khayelitsha to Langa, encouraging participants to arrive sustainably and experience Cape Town’s evolving cycle network firsthand. Info here:
