Every weekday in August the island wakes up at Founder Haus. This Thursday it wakes up talking about the new space economy.
Before a rocket flies, it flies thousands of times inside a computer. Simulation is what makes space engineering cheap enough to attempt at all, and it is one of the reasons a city in the south of Brazil ended up on the map of the global space industry.
Over breakfast we look at both sides of that. How simulation actually works in space engineering, and what Florianópolis has been quietly assembling that is turning it into the country's main space hub.

Nicholas Juliano is an aerospace engineer from Universidade Federal do ABC, specialized in aerodynamics and systems engineering. He works in Aerospace and Defense Business Development at ESSS, the official Ansys representative in Latin America, helping engineering companies build simulation and analysis capability.
Renato Simão has spent over ten years in research, development and innovation, connecting industry, technology and strategy. He is Innovation Coordinator at ISI-SE, the SENAI Institute for Innovation in Embedded Systems in Florianópolis, leading work in artificial intelligence, embedded systems, geointelligence and the new space economy.

Magic Island is a month-long popup city in Florianópolis, Brazil. Every August, founders, builders, and investors land on the island for hackathons, dinners, meetups, and open days.
Floripa Institute of Technology [FiT] is a non-profit institution working across education, advocacy, and research to make Florianópolis a global hub for technology and entrepreneurship.
Founder Haus Beach Club is a private club for founders who build and builders who found. As part of the Founder Village infrastructure, developed and co-owned by founders for founders, we are transforming the neighborhood of Jurerê Internacional into the village we want to live in, share with like-minded families, and co-own as a community.
