You can join this event even if you have not attended our previous manga club sessions.
This manga club focuses on psychological manga. Each time, we pick one title from the genre and discuss it together as a group. For this session, we will be focusing on Helter Skelter.
Helter Skelter is a manga by Kyoko Okazaki, one of the most influential and iconic creators in the world of Japanese women’s manga. Although Okazaki is extremely well known in Japan, her name is unfortunately not as widely recognized in the United States, partly because her career was cut short by a traffic accident before anime and manga became as widely popular in the U.S. as they are today.
Here is a brief synopsis:
Liliko is a rapidly rising fashion model. Behind her popularity, however, she hides a major secret: she has undergone extremely dangerous cosmetic surgery, to the point that almost her entire body has been reconstructed. She has literally sacrificed everything for her modeling career. Everyone admires her strength, her beauty, and her presence. But behind that image, Liliko is slowly being pushed further and further to the edge.
Among all the female characters I have encountered in manga, Liliko is one of the coolest and most unforgettable. I chose this title because I want more people to discover her and this incredible work.
Participants are expected to read the manga in advance. It is only one volume, so it should not take too long.
To keep the story fresh in your mind, we recommend reading it as close to the event date as possible.
Ticket holders will receive a list of discussion themes one week before the event.
