Basilica Bio Beach Night: Puget Sound Citizen Science
You don’t have to be a scientist to contribute to science!
Join Basilica Bio for a nighttime exploration of the Puget Sound during One Ocean Week Seattle! 🪼⋆。𖦹°🫧⋆.ೃ࿔*:・
We’ll head to the intertidal zone at Constellation Park to document marine biodiversity through community science. Participants will learn how to identify and photograph intertidal organisms, contribute observations to iNaturalist, and look for sea stars as part of the Sea Star Wasting Disease Observation Project.
We’ll also talk about environmental justice, access to ocean science, and your right to participate in stewarding the places we call home.
No prior science experience is necessary. Come curious, bring a flashlight, and get ready to look at some creatures!
What to bring: Sturdy close-toe shoes, warm layers, a flashlight/headlamp (some will be provided), and a phone if you have one! You may want to download iNaturalist before you arrive.
Registration contribution: To keep our event open and sustainable we encourage donations on a sliding scale of 5-25$ payable at the door or via our givebutter. Please send a screenshot of your donation confirmation to info@basilicabio.org. If you need a free ticket, please email us at quinn@basilicabio.org. No one turned away for lack of funds.
We can't wait to see you there,
Quinn & Carolyn, Outreach Coordinators at Basilica Bio ˖°𓇼🌊⋆🫧˖
