About Event

Set during World War II, the film follows a young boy working as a scout after losing his family. Moving between harsh wartime reality and dreamlike memories, it reveals a fragile inner world shaped by loss and longing.

Tarkovsky’s debut feature, the film is known for its poetic imagery, haunting atmosphere, and unique way of blending memory, dreams, and reality — a style that would later define his cinema. It won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, launching him as one of the most important filmmakers in world cinema.

🎥 What is the Cinema Club?

Cinema Club is a twice-monthly curated discussions dedicated to classic films.

The club presents landmark works that shaped modern film language and still feel uncannily relevant today — asking big questions about time, identity, freedom, love, technology, and the human condition.

Each event is accompanied by Daniel Kniazev, a long-time observer of classic cinema who has led film discussions in Saint Petersburg, Tbilisi, and London. He will introduce the film, share historical and cultural context, and guide an open conversation. This is not a lecture series, but a space for shared reflection.
