About Event

The biggest questions in biomedical research don't fit neatly into a single discipline, they demand collaboration across fields, perspectives, and ways of thinking. Drawing from his graduate school experiences, Gautam Kumar will explore how working with people who see the world differently doesn't just make research easier, it makes it fundamentally better. You'll learn why seeking out unfamiliar expertise, asking questions outside your comfort zone, and bridging multiple levels of inquiry leads to sharper questions, stronger methods, and breakthrough discoveries.

Key Takeaways:

  1. Cross-disciplinary learning unlocks problems you couldn't solve alone: Borrowing tools and frameworks from other fields expands your research toolkit and reveals blind spots.

  2. Growth comes from curiosity about how others think: The best collaborators don't just contribute their expertise; they teach you to see your own work through fresh eyes.

  3. Layering perspectives creates depth, not just breadth: When multiple disciplines tackle the same question, the resulting insight is richer, more nuanced, and more likely to hold up under scrutiny.

Who Should Attend

This session is for:

  • Graduate students and postdocs

  • Early-career researchers

  • Lab leaders and PIs

  • Industry scientists

  • Anyone feeling stuck in a research silo
