Nina Jakobson is a dancer, director, & deviser with a background study in contact improvisation, qi gong, buddhist meditation, clubbing, theater, & performance art. They have been training in Contact Improv for the past 3 years and are a student and playful researcher of the form as a political experiment, a spiritual experiment & a technical experiment.

CI is a free-form dance (started in 1972 by Steve Paxton) exploring partner movement based on how bodies interact with physics: touch, gravity, balance, momentum & playful exploration. expect to see lifts & rolls, “body puzzles,” unexpected timing & perspective-altering positions. we partner into dynamic, in-the-moment duets, tuning into our sensations, the subtle cues of a touch & where the movement wants to go. it’s about staying curious & discovering our natural instincts for improvising.

disclaimer: CI is risky: by participating, we assume the research and responsibility of co-creating safety & well-being. always listen to your body & together we will work to move in conscious, responsive, and responsible ways. we follow the 1st rule of CI: take care of yourself, take care of the space, take care of each other.

consent: this is a substance-free space and a space that does not engage the escalation of sexual energy. because CI involves touch, we do this to preserve the safety of our exploration with respect for the agency of those we dance with.

clothing suggestions: wear things you feel comfortable going upside down in, long layers are helpful for gliding & sliding, knee pads if you have, remove jewelry that can snag or catch on others.
