About Event

What happens when clinical guidelines become structured, usable data?

On our next session at Research Saturday, we will explore the Nigerian Standard Treatment Guidelines Dataset (NSTG), developed by Chisom Rutherford. This dataset translates Nigeria’s official treatment protocols into a format that can be used for research, decision support systems, and AI applications.

Healthcare systems across Africa rely heavily on standardized treatment guidelines, yet much of this knowledge remains locked in static documents. Converting these guidelines into datasets opens up new possibilities for clinical decision support, health informatics, and data-driven policy.

In this session, we will examine:

  • How treatment guidelines can be transformed into structured datasets

  • The challenges of working with clinical and public health data

  • The role of such datasets in building healthcare-focused AI systems

  • What this means for Nigeria’s and Africa’s digital health ecosystem

We will also discuss how initiatives like this contribute to improving access to high-quality, locally relevant healthcare data.
