SMOKEHOUSE: A Morning of Medicine Music
Smokehouse: A 3-Hour Live Ceremony of Medicine Songs, Prayer and Connection
SMOKEHOUSE is an opportunity to be steeped in song, prayer and sound, enriched with healing melodies.
Through ceremonial ritual, live medicine songs and sound, we’ll move through a journey designed to bring us into the centre of our centre and settle into a deeply receptive state.
Medicine music carries prayer through melody. Kurt’s work with song is deeply intuitive and responsive to the moment. Much of what arises is original and spontaneous, with songs emerging live in response to the people, the space and the ceremony itself. Some have never been heard before and may never be heard again.
Kurt brings the remedy of medicine music to the places within us holding irritation, agitation and friction, helping those points of tension soften and dissipate, and bringing greater harmony into the system.
More rest instead of restlessness.
A calming balm for the frazzled, hyper-vigilant and intense pace Life can sometimes move at.
The journey will be gently activating and profoundly caring, kind and loving. It is an opportunity to immerse yourself in medicine music, move with grief, celebrate Life, integrate profound experiences and reconnect more deeply with yourself.
For more than twelve years, Kurt has lived in close relationship with ceremonial medicine music, prayer and song. His music is largely self-taught, alongside traditional medicine songs shared and exchanged with him by Indigenous medicine people and song carriers from around the world. Years spent sitting in and tending ceremony, listening, learning and exchanging songs have become part of the ground from which his own music arises.
Kurt’s voice, range and relationship with song are extraordinarily moving. A multidimensional artist, he creates transcendent live experiences through sound that seem to seep into the very fibres of your being.
There is very little to do; simply sink in and surrender to receiving.
Hāpe will be offered as an optional part of the ceremony at the beginning. This medicine from the Amazon basin has long been used within particular traditions for prayer, grounding and connection with community, forest and land. Participation is completely optional.
At the end of the journey, we’ll take time to gather ourselves back in, becoming rooted and present before returning to the day.
What to Bring
Bring pillows, blankets, bolsters or anything else that will help you feel fully supported. You can remain seated throughout the journey or lie down when you feel called to.
We're looking forward to sharing this with you.
With care,
Amber and Kurt
