Surface Meets Function: Achieving diamond-like properties at low temperatures

​Where do coatings make a difference? This 1.5‑day lunch‑to‑lunch workshop explores diamond‑like carbon (DLC) as a versatile, tailorable coating material. Exploring how DLC properties can be precisely adjusted for specific application needs while preserving low‑temperature processing and industrial scalability.

​With practical examples, experts in DLC research and development, coating technology developers, and users from the field will discuss application areas, successful lab-to-fab transfer strategies, and emerging opportunities - demonstrating that diamond-like carbon offers far more than exceptional tribological characteristics.

​This workshop is hosted by Fraunhofer USA in partnership with MDPI Coatings - Diamond and Related Coatings and takes place on November 4-5, 2026, in East Lansing, Michigan.
