FOLLOW HER HEART-BEAT
Curated by Dieudonné Elohym & Kabambi Mbiola

Follow Her heArt-beat draws inspiration from “Fuata Moyo,” Swahili for “Follow the Heart.” Based on this philosophy, the exhibition honours women whose influence and presence persist in shaping our creative and personal paths, showcasing a selection of female artists whose works reflect courage, memory, and emotional richness.

This exhibition serves both as a tribute and a dialogue. It honours the women who raised, taught, and inspired us, and acknowledges those whose dreams were interrupted, whose expectations we could not always meet, yet whose lessons endure within us. Through their multiplicity of stories, we recognise that womanhood, much like art, is never linear; it is rhythmic, complex, and profoundly unique.

The heArt-beat becomes a metaphor for the pulse of creation, acting as a bridge between art and everyday life, past and present, dreams and reality. It also connects to the melodies, songs, and poems that accompany artistic processes, reminding us that memory and emotion often manifest through sound.

Ultimately, Follow Her heArt-beat asks: What happens when we follow her heart, her art, her rhythm? Where do these women’s stories lead us? Within the spirit of Fuata Moyo, the exhibition invites us to listen closely and follow the pulse that connects us all.

“Heaven is at the feet
of those who know the mother within.
Mothers are the pathways to dreams.
I live the dreams of my mother.
and her mother
And her mother...”
