About Event

OoooOOooOoOOooo  Spoooky October Forest and Friends is on the way!  If you are on the eastside on Thursday October 17th, join us from 4:30-7pm at Cascadia Pizza (https://www.cascadiapizzaco.com/bellevue).  We’ll get together again to discuss climate, forests, startups, and technology in general; come join the discussion among friends.  Last month we had a dozen participants at many different points in and out of climate work.

To prime the pump this month, I’ll be bringing the latest paper from Fire Ecology on the recent extreme fire severity and giant sequoia mortality by Stephenson, et al. (https://fireecology.springeropen.com/articles/10.1186/s42408-024-00316-5).  Even if you didn’t have any questions about the extremity of those recent fires, the breakdown on data analysis and experimental methods are worth a read if you perform field work or want to understand how such work is done.  If you are in GIS the GPS precision and its impact on pre-registered plot centers (you are pre-registering your experiments before you run them, right?) really gets to the heart of how that kind of work matters in practice.  The paper is open access, so do check it out.

On the day we’ll see if we can get the patio again, but the long range forecast looks a bit like cool mid-October rain, so we’ll likely be inside.  I’ll be wearing a hardhat and cruising vest to help folks find the group – feel free to walk right up and join our table, we’ll be excited to have you join us.
