Proprioceptive Writing: Write, Read, and Eat Bagels
Explore Your Inner Self with Proprioceptive Writing
This 11/11, from 10:30 am to 12 pm at the Commons, you're invited to delve into the reflective practice of Proprioceptive Writing (PW), a method with roots stretching back to the 1970s. Not quite journaling and not just meditation, PW is a unique blend that guides you to explore the mind's deeper narratives. Created by Linda Trichter Metcalf and Tobin Simon, this practice is like having a conversation on paper, uncovering the subtle layers of your thoughts and feelings. It's perfect for anyone looking to gain insight into their inner self or simply find a new channel for creativity.
The session is shaped to gently introduce you to the essence of PW, followed by a guided writing experience. We'll start with a brief intro to the world of Proprioceptive Writing—think of it as setting the stage. Then, with the help of soothing Baroque music, we'll guide you through writing responses to a carefully chosen prompt. It’s a no-pressure environment; write whatever comes up for you. Afterwards, you'll share your writing with the group. Sharing is an opportunity to hear your voice in the presence of others; the group will respect confidentiality and will not provide feedback on your piece, it can be a powerful way to connect. We'll close our morning with a group discussion to share insights and reflections over some bagels.
Engaging in PW can be a game-changer. Those who make it a habit often notice a clearer mind, emotional balance, and a spark of creativity. It's about slowing down enough to hear what your inner voice is really saying, which can be a powerful stress reliever and a catalyst for personal growth. So, come join us at the Commons for a morning that might just change the way you think and create. It’s a great opportunity to meet like-minded people and give yourself some mental space before diving back into daily life.
