ID Power Hour: When Training Isn’t Really the Problem
Join us for this month’s ID Power Hour, where we’ll explore a situation many instructional designers have faced at some point: a leadership request for training that may not actually be about training.
Together, we’ll unpack a realistic case where an instructional designer is asked to quickly build mandatory “accountability training,” while early signals suggest the root issue might be structural, cultural, or organizational.
Rather than jumping straight to solutions, we’ll slow down and examine the situation from different angles. Through small group discussions and shared reflections, we’ll explore how instructional designers can navigate these moments thoughtfully — balancing leadership expectations with strategic thinking.
Participation:
Interactive session with breakout discussions, shared reflections, and open conversation.
This session is less about finding the “perfect solution” and more about exploring how we approach complex requests in real workplaces. Expect honest perspectives, practical insights, and a chance to learn from how others think through the same challenge.
In this session, we will:
Analyze a realistic leadership-driven training request
Explore how instructional designers identify the real problem behind a training ask
Discuss ways to navigate these conversations with stakeholders
Reflect on how to design meaningful solutions even when training is the expected deliverable
See you there,
Catherine & Damla
