About Event

A presentation and discussion examining how systemic risk aversion could shape our economic trajectory toward ASI, through two papers: Nick Bostrom's Optimal Timing for Superintelligence (2026) and Charles I. Jones's The AI Dilemma: Growth versus Existential Risk (2024). Together, these works raise questions about the benefits of accelerating AI development against the costs of getting it wrong, and how a “sprint-then-pause” framework could mitigate these risks. Under what conditions should we continue the rapid progress of AI, and under what conditions should we stop?

Sonya Palkhivala is a philosophy and economics student at Concordia University and a co-founder of AI Alignment Concordia.
