Moms in Labor: Book Launch & Celebration
No one warns you that becoming a mother also means becoming your baby's advocate — at the hospital, at home, and especially at work. When you announce your pregnancy, you're entering a negotiation you were never trained for. Your employer has HR, a legal team, and decades of policy. Your baby has you.
Join Armoire and the Chamber of Mothers Seattle Chapter for an evening celebrating the launch of Moms in Labor by employment lawyer Daphne Delvaux. After 15 years fighting for women pushed out, passed over, or punished for having a baby, Daphne wrote the book many mothers wish they'd had: the real laws that protect you, the word-for-word scripts for every awkward conversation, and the strategies to advocate like a lawyer without the bill.
Together, we'll celebrate Washington's Paid Leave program, one of the more generous states covering leave at 90% pay. We'll also be honest about the gap, including eligibility issues, discrimination, and the difference between the law and the experience.
How do we get from 90% to 100% for everyone?
Ambika Singh, Founder & CEO of Armoire, will share her experience on how a business owner can close the gap that policy alone can't reach.
You'll leave with a practical understanding of how to use Washington's paid leave program, and what to say when you walk into HR's office.
We can't wait to be in community with you.
