Conservation challenges in Sabah - a 40-year view

​Professor Glyn Davies (Chair DICE Advisory Board, and Senior Adviser, WWF Malaysia) will consider the changes that have taken place over 40 years in this state of East Malaysia in Borneo. Glyn will compare wildlife survey results from 1980 to 2020 to illustrate the long term impacts of timber logging, palm oil production and hunting on a selection of other larger mammals.

​About the speaker

​Glyn Davies started his career with WWF-Malaysia in Sabah in 1979, when he co-led the Faunal Survey of Sabah project (1979-1981), as well as conducting his Cambridge PhD fieldwork in on Red Leaf Monkeys in Sepilok. Since then he has become a leader in international conservation and development, having worked for governments, international agencies, NGOs and universities in Asia, Africa, the European Commission, UK and USA. In 2018 he returned to Sabah, as Senior Adviser to WWF-Malaysia, and established the Wildlife Atlas of Sabah project (2018-present), as well as developing a ‘living landscapes approach’ to conservation and sustainable development with WWF-Malaysia.
