🌿 OPC Community Garden WorkDay — Climate Week'26!
Grab your gloves — it's time to get our hands dirty! 🌱
The East Bay Permaculture Guild is partnering with the Oakland Peace Center (OPC) and California Volunteers for a community garden work day during Climate Week 2026. This is the jump-start of a long-term edible + medicinal community garden project that will share fresh food with OPC neighbors, Wood St. Commons, and building organizations serving unhoused community members.
On the agenda:
🛁 Move 4 bathtubs into the garden and set them up to be planters
🪱 Nourish the garden with compost
🌱 Plant starts donated by community members
🌿 Clear bougainvillea + prep the parking lot bed (best sun on the site!)
🪣Assess water/irrigation setup
🍱 Snacks and lunch provided — must RSVP here: https://events.californiavolunteers.ca.gov/opportunities/fChx2VcF3S
Whether you're an experienced gardener or a total beginner, we need you! Come for an hour or stay the whole day. Questions? Email [email protected]
RSVP so we can plan tools + food!
This garden is rooted in a 2.5-year vision: an edible, medicinal, community-tended space for all who call OPC home. Community Climate Action Days are an opportunity to work on projects protecting our communities against the harshest impacts of climate change while improving our quality of life and access to green spaces. These service days combine the forces of the California Service Corps, local community partners, leaders, nonprofits, elected officials and hundreds of volunteers in a powerful day of service.
