This workshop #18 in a series of 30+ weekly sessions.
Agenda:
All climate-related financial loss figures you’ve seen in reports and headlines come from the insurance industry. OECD, The World Bank, UN ... use insurance loss numbers as the reference.
However, public infrastructures, including power transmission and distribution infrastructure, water and waste management facilities, have never been insured.
Naturally, losses that no insurer collects, assesses or pays simply don't appear in published climate-related loss statistics published by the OECD, The World Bank, UN, central banks ...
A common misconception: insured loss figures published and re-pupublished are quoted as “total global climate-related losses”. They are absolutely not "total" and not "global"! They capture only what was insured and leave out damage to all uninsured properties, including all public infrastructure, municipal and state buildings.
Important! Flood, storm, hail, drought and wildfire damage to schools and hospitals, train stations and airports, water supply and drainage systems, power plants, and roads, underground and rail networks is always missing from the official loss numbers we hear and read.
In this session, we will:
Map the asset gap: discuss which types of infrastructure assets fall outside official & public loss statistics;
Identify the hazard gap: clarify which types of climate hazards fall outside loss statistics;
Evaluate the damage: review the physical impact of climate hazards on infrastructure assets;
Price the loss: calculate expected financial loss for infrastructure portfolios.
Format: a one-hour interactive online workshop with dynamic discussions and answers to your questions. Microphones on, cameras on, and NO recordings. Don’t miss the opportunity to ask questions and discuss them with your peers!
Workshop materials, slides, and video tutorials are already available in the shared Drive for participants.
