Member screening - Songs My Brother Taught Me
NO RSVP NEEDED — MEMBER DROP-IN EVENT
Join us at Sansaar Books for a private member screening of Chloé Zhao’s 2015 debut feature, Songs My Brothers Taught Me.
Set on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, Songs My Brothers Taught Me follows Johnny, a Lakota teenager who plans to leave for Los Angeles after graduation, and his younger sister Jashaun, who would be left behind. When their father dies, both siblings have to work out what home means to them and what it would cost to leave. Zhao cast people from Pine Ridge instead of professional actors and built much of the story around their own lives. The result is a quiet, beautiful portrait of a Lakota family and community, years before Zhao went on to make Nomadland.
