🎨 Activity details
Acts of Memory is a tour that explores the relationship between personal and collective memory, asking how lived experience shapes identity and what happens when individual histories come into tension with broader cultural narratives. Moving from archives of everyday images and cultural objects to works that revisit inherited political histories, the tour examines memory as something that is not only preserved but constantly reinterpreted. It considers how familiar visual languages can evoke longing, discomfort, or contradiction, and how artists use them to navigate complex relationships with the past. The tour concludes by focusing on the body as a site of memory, exploring how desire, identity, and gender are shaped through cultural narratives, symbolism, and lived experience. Together, the works question who is remembered, what is forgotten, and how memory continues to shape our understanding of ourselves and our histories.

Your contribution supports the extensive research, preparation, and relationship-building that form the foundation of each tour. Every itinerary is developed through visits to multiple exhibitions and conversations with artists, curators, and organizers; the route also considers how the selected shows relate to one another within Berlin’s ever-evolving contemporary art landscape.
These tours are designed for anyone curious about contemporary art and collecting, especially those who want to engage more deeply but may not know where to begin. Together, we explore the ideas, processes, materials, techniques, and aesthetic decisions that shape artistic practice, moving beyond surface impressions to uncover the conceptual frameworks behind the work.
The experience is intended as a space for attentive looking, critical reflection, and meaningful exchange. By fostering dialogue, encouraging thoughtful questions, and creating opportunities for shared discovery, the tours aim to deepen participants’ understanding of contemporary art while cultivating a sense of connection—to the artworks, the city, and one another.
*Exact itinerary and meeting location are subject to change.
On standard tours, we visit a selection of thought-provoking group and solo exhibitions; on special tours, we also have the opportunity to visit an artist’s studio and gain insight into their creative process. Whether in galleries, museums, or studios, the goal is always to open minds, encourage new ways of thinking, and create opportunities for connection.
This gathering is part of Kindred’s ongoing effort to help members connect locally through simple, repeatable moments of togetherness. Hosting and traveling through Kindred is about trust, generosity, and real human connection, and this is a chance to experience that spirit in person.
Whether you’re brand new or have been part of the community for years, we’d love to see you there.
