Service Day at the Heights Trailhead at Yale
Join us and Rotary Club of Skyline Houston at the Yale Trailhead for a hands-on community workday focused on restoring and enhancing one of the trail’s most visible spaces. This project brings together three key efforts: planting ground cover for the growing Miyawaki forest, installing picnic tables and an ADA-accessible bench, and removing invasive vines that have overtaken a mature pecan tree.
The vine removal is a critical first step toward improving safety, accessibility, and the long-term health of the tree, which is currently almost completely covered . At the same time, we’ll be strengthening the surrounding landscape by adding dense, native ground cover to support the Miyawaki forest and create a more resilient, shaded environment.
New seating will help transform the trailhead into a welcoming gathering space for neighbors, trail users, and families. Together, these improvements will turn an overgrown and underutilized area into a vibrant, functional, and ecologically rich destination along the trail.
Come ready to get your hands dirty, meet your neighbors, and be part of shaping a greener, more connected Heights.
