Countries around the world are investing in “sovereign AI” to gain greater control over their data, compute, models and infrastructure.
But there’s a fundamental tension.
A country can keep its data within its borders, while relying on foreign cloud infrastructure.
It can build a national AI model, while training it on chips designed or manufactured elsewhere.
So what does AI sovereignty actually mean in practice?
Inspired by Stanford HAI’s recent research, The Commercial Landscape of AI Sovereignty Offerings, Padmini Soni and I are excited to host our next Asian Women Advancing AI (AWAAI) Roundtable to dive deeper on Beyond AI Sovereignty: The Commercial Landscape of AI Sovereignty Offerings
