About Event

Join us in the Sanctuary space of Bleeding Heart Gallery to be serenaded by some of Edmonton's finest emerging singer-songwriters.

Openers:

7:30om Mutton wolff: Mutton Wolf is an alternative folk act based in Edmonton, Alberta. Seeking to emphasize the both meek and wild aspects of our nature, Mutton Wolf’s lyricism highlights the nuance of life after trauma through deeply poetic and humanist perspectives. Taking after songwriting greats like PJ Harvey and Fiona Apple, Mutton Wolf encompasses both rage and tenderness in their sound, like a lamb and a wolf simultaneously.

8:15pm Streetveil : Cassia Lumby, AKA streetveil, is an independent electronica artist living in Edmonton whose lyrics are inspired by poems they write about their daily life and the world around them. They have played piano and created art their whole life, and strive to create complex layered soundscapes that make you want to dance! They love pronghorn sheep, playing video games on easy mode, and strawberry rhubarb pie!

9pm Sir Kadian: (Mika Haykowsky) is a multidisciplinary artist whose creative tendrils tickle galley exhibitions, pottery, and songwriting, to name a few. She has been writing songs since 2017 and quietly gracing small stages around Edmonton, until last year when she decided to commit to sharing her music more consistently.

Sir Kadian will be joined (very excitedly) by the AMAZING mandolin player, Jarred Albright!!!

Jarred Albright: Jarred Albright trained classically throughout his youth but quickly fell in love with the fiddle style and joined the Calgary Fiddlers Association, of which he was a member for 11 years. He devoured Celtic, folk, old-tyme, and bluegrass styles before entering post-secondary to pursue jazz performance there.

Since then he has endeavoured to teach himself to sing and play mandolin, guitar, and banjo, and spent 5 years as the Calgary Fiddlers' assistant artistic director and full time accompanist.

Music has taken him around the world including the United States, South Korea, Scotland, England, and Ireland. These days Jarred can be found performing with many diverse local acts as a sideman and has also found new excitement in recording, producing, and videography. He happily spends his days practicing, performing, puttering about the recording studio, and sharing his love of music with his many students.

Care CoreCare Core is an experiment in gathering and creating together. Rather than showcasing the individual artwork of the artist, Mika Haykowsky invites you to participate in an ongoing collaborative installation build. This community-driven piece will be birthed in Bleeding Heart Art Space and will incubate there for the duration of the 4-week event series. Drone Day (May 30) summons sound-makers, noisy objects, and a playful spirit for an activation of the installation through the amplification of sounds it generates. At the Artisan Market (June 6) local creators share their goodies with you in the Sanctuary Space. On June 12 we will celebrate our creations with an Emerging Musician Showcase and closing of the gallery space.

This series of heart-warming events transpired through a palpable desire to gather and co-create our present and future here in Edmonton. Together we ask, what does community care look like?

All proceeds will be split between Bleeding Heart Art Space and the artists.
