Mt Adams PBA September Quarterly Meeting
Last year, the PBA dedicated our September quarterly meeting to exploring the initial impacts of the July, 2025 Burdoin Fire. We discussed the fire's effects on oak and conifer trees, considerations about post-fire reseeding or replanting, and opportunities to maintain what fuels reduction benefits the fire did have.
One year later, we'll revisit the Burdoin Fire footprint and delve into what more we've learned about the fire's effects, the efficacy of nearby thinning and prescribed fire treatments on fire behavior, and the post-fire recovery of oak woodlands within the burn footprint. We'll be joined by Garrett Meigs, a forest health scientist with Washington DNR who analyzes the impacts of wildfires in the state, including how these fires help further landscape resilience and wildfire risk reduction objectives.
We'll also discuss how prescribed fire efforts by the PBA and other partners can both build upon, and be mindful of, the fire's impacts to improve overall fire resilience in the region.
