Tania Ketenjian & Philip Wood // Sound Made Public: The Art of Listening
Join us on Tuesday, September 8th for a talk with Tania Ketenjian and Philip Wood, co-founders of SOUND MADE PUBLIC, a San Francisco and New York -based studio that creates audio experiences, sound installations, and immersive cultural programming for institutions around the world.
Award-winning journalist and producer Tania Ketenjian has spent over two decades interviewing the world's leading artists and thinkers with unique conversations that reveal intimate understandings of creativity, inspiration and the journeys that shape us. She has produced nationally and globally for NPR, the BBC, the BBC World Service and many others. Philip is a designer, maker, and cultural provocateur whose work spans branding, spatial design, furniture, and live events, and the founder of CITIZEN:Citizen, with pieces in the permanent collections of MoMA. Together, they've built SOUND MADE PUBLIC into a studio agnostic to scale and medium, producing everything from podcast series to public installations for institutions including the Guggenheim, the Met, MoMA, the Whitney, The Brooklyn Museum, The Studio Museum in Harlem and The Rubin Museum, amongst others.
In this talk, Tania and Philip will share how they translate place, story, and sound into experiences that move fluidly from audio and recorded media into live, physical space. Drawing on projects like their work capturing the Guggenheim's architecture as an auditory experience for blind and low-vision visitors, and their Webby-honored podcast collaborations, they'll reflect on what it means to design for the ear as much as the eye, and how sound can make cultural spaces and stories more accessible, resonant, and public.
