How can you RAED 7H15?
You can probably read this title without much effort. But how does your brain make sense of jumbled letters? And how does it know that FORM and FROM are different words, even though they contain exactly the same letters?
To understand this, Aakash combined behavioural experiments, brain imaging, and convolutional neural networks trained to recognize words.
By looking inside these networks, they uncovered how the brain represents letters and their positions, revealing computational principles that help explain how humans learn to read.
This work connects to a broader question in AI: can we understand intelligence by figuring out how neural networks actually work?
He will discuss how our research approaches this challenge and introduce VibeMyExpt, an AI-powered platform to help researchers turn scientific ideas into working behavioural experiments.
About Speaker:
Aakash Agrawal is a neuroscientist and AI researcher studying visual word recognition.
He received his PhD from IISc Bangalore, winning the institute's Best PhD Thesis Award, and was a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow at NeuroSpin, Paris.
He combines behavioural experiments, computational modelling, fMRI and MEG to investigate how the brain learns to read. He is also building VibeMyExpt, a platform that uses AI to help researchers design and run behavioural experiments.
