Speaker Bio
Yasmine Lonon has been curious about how to use money to "do good" since she was a teenager. She has worked as a data analyst and database administrator with the US African Development Foundation (USADF) for the last 7 years. USADF is a US government agency that invests up to 250,000 USD into African-owned enterprises. Her work has entailed leading reporting to internal and external stakeholders on USADF's programmatic activities in the agriculture and energy sectors, as well as procuring, testing and customizing database software used by approximately 150 users at the Washington DC headquarters and in 22 field offices in West, Central, East and Southern Africa. Prior to her work at USADF, Yasmine spent 8 years in socially responsible/sustainable investing with MSCI and its predecessors KLD Research & Analytics and Riskmetrics. Yasmine is a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer, having served for 2 years as a junior high school math teacher to over 100 students in Grand Bassa County, Liberia. She earned her Master's degree in Development Studies from the Department for International Development at the London School of Economics and her Bachelor's degree in Finance from Rutgers College at Rutgers University. In her spare time, Yasmine enjoys going to live music shows, trying new cuisines, reading, and dance. She has dabbled in samba, Afro-Brazilian, West African and Middle Eastern styles in recent years.
