About the Event

This month's event is sponsored by Carillon Historical Park and Conflux Cloud.

Join us at the historic Carillon Historical Park for our next AI Dayton Coffee Talk! This month, we are exploring how AI is impacting history and higher education!

What We'll Cover:

We are thrilled to welcome guest speaker Jonathan Winkler, Professor at Wright State University. Drawing from his firsthand experience building a custom local LLM for historical analysis, Professor Jonathan Winkler will take us behind the scenes to explore both the technical hurdles and breakthrough opportunities of applying artificial intelligence to the humanities. The conversation will examine the broader ripple effects of these technologies—from navigating the delicate balance between AI misuse and academic benefit in higher education, to demonstrating how a historian's rigorous analytical toolkit, when augmented by AI, can unlock surprising strategic value and data insights in the corporate and business world.

About the Speaker:

Jonathan Winkler is Professor of History at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. He is a historian of U.S. foreign relations, technology, military, and naval affairs across the modern era.  He is the author of Nexus: Strategic Communications and American Security in World War I and has another work soon to be published. His publications look at how the U.S. government coordinated commercial and military communications networks to meet transforming strategic interests across the 20th century. He is also a consultant for corporate and legal clients on issues relating to government-industry relations, contracting, and ownership.
