Back to Te Maunga | Theatre Excursion + Drama Club
Hey friend, you're invited to join No Drama Drama Club. This is a group for folks who love seeing theatre together and yapping about it afterwards—plus, to keep our community safe it's a mask-required event. Think of this like a book club, but for theatre!
Whether you see every show in the city or haven't seen one before—we'd love to have you along. We'll take care of buying your tickets so you can just book with us and show up.
This event is hosted on the unceded land of the Kulin nations. We pay our respects to their elders past and present. If you’re a settler like us, you should be paying the rent.
P.S. This event is 18+ :)
📢 About the show
Back to Te Maunga runs for 80 minutes and is a new play from Māori playwright Joel Te Teira about male friendship and the relationship one has with their own history.
FRIENDSHIP, GRIEF AND FORGIVENESS COLLIDE AGAINST THE BACKDROP OF A HUNTERS CABIN IN RURAL AOTEAROA, NEW ZEALAND.
We're super excited to catch this show because it's from a powerhouse team of creatives. The director, Keegan Bragg directed the critically acclaimed production of Boys on the Verge of Tears which was at fortyfivedownstairs last year (Ryan loved it). Plus heaps of other excellent people—it should be a brilliant afternoon of contemporary Māori theatre.

It generally goes like this, but we might decide to switch it up from time to time!
Housekeeping — Safety mechanisms and venue information
Icebreakers & Introductions — Maybe a little drama game? 👀
First takes — We’ll all share a star rating to the show and jot down some initial thoughts
Group discussion — A chat facilitated by Jenna & Ryan who’ll have some great questions prepared 🤓
Second takes — We’ll write & share our own mini reviews with amended star ratings (or maybe no rating, if that’s how you roll)
Chat amongst yourselves — We’ll pack up but keep the space open to chat to your new friends & theatrical accomplices
