On Saturday, August 1st, we're throwing a people's celebration of 30+ years of rent control organizing - honoring the elders who lived it, along with the volunteers, activists, and organizers who fought in the past and are currently building the future of rent control together.
2PM–5PM, All day offerings: Silkscreening with Ñ Press, Rent control gallery opening, with 4 Roxbury elder audio stories, Backyard games for all ages, Food & drinks served all day
2:30–3:30 PM, Black Wealth in Roxbury: A Conversation with Marie Firmin
Marie takes us through the history of Black wealth-building in Roxbury, including Billie Holiday’s role, through jazz and music, in helping build the entrepreneurship of Black Roxbury residents. Come learn the history they didn’t teach us.
3:30–5:00 PM, Open Mic & Spoken Word
Featuring poet and poetic soul Christina Pierre-Louis and Essmaa Litim (more info on each artist below), woven together with live testimonies from organizers who fought for rent control in the ‘90s and organizers carrying the fight today. Bring a poem, a story, a song. The mic is yours.
5:00–6:00 PM, Community Dinner + Honoring Our Volunteers + Rent Control Updates
Catered with love because nobody organizes on an empty stomach. We celebrate and recognize the rent control volunteers who made this historic campaign possible and share where the fight goes next, fresh off the July 31st legislative deadline.
7:00 PM–late, DANCE PARTY 🎉 with DJ Kitz
Because joy is resistance, and a rent party isn’t a rent party without dancing.

El sábado 1 de agosto, vamos a celebrar una fiesta cultural para conmemorar más de 30 años de lucha por el control de rentas, en homenaje a las personas mayores que lo vivieron, junto con los voluntarios, activistas y organizadores que lucharon en el pasado y que actualmente están construyendo juntos el futuro del control de rentas.
De 2PM–5PM, actividades durante todo el día: serigrafía con Ñ Press, inauguración de la galería «control de renta», con cuatro relatos en audio de personas mayores de Roxbury, juegos en el patio para todas las edades, comida y bebidas disponibles durante todo el día
2:30 a 3:30 pm: La riqueza afroamericana en Roxbury. Una conversación con Marie Firmin
Marie nos traslada a través de la historia de la construcción de la riqueza afroamericana en Roxbury, incluyendo el papel de Billie Holiday, a través del jazz y de la música, ayudando a fomentar el emprendimiento de los residentes afroamericanos de Roxbury. Venga a aprender la historia que no nos enseñaron.
3:30 a 5:00 pm: Micrófono Abierto y Palabras Expresadas.
Con la poeta y artista de Palabras Expresadas Essmaa Litim, además de una poeta de Roxbury que pronto será anunciada, enlazada con testimonios en vivo de organizadores que lucharon por el control de renta en los 90s y de organizadores que siguen en la lucha hasta ahora. 5:00 a 6:00 pm: Cena Comunitaria + Honramos a nuestros voluntarios y Actualizaciones sobre el control de renta:
Servida con cariño porque nadie puede organizar con el estómago vacío. Vamos a celebrar y a reconocer a los voluntarios en la Campaña del control de renta que hicieron posible esta Campaña histórica y vamos a compartir hacia dónde va la lucha ahora, recién cumplido el plazo legislativo del 31 de julio.
7:00 pm hasta tarde: FIESTA 🎉 DE BAILE con DJ Kitz
Porque la alegría es resistencia y porque una fiesta de renta no es una fiesta de renta sin bailar.
