Telling Your Story: A Workshop on Grant Writing for Urban Farms
Join us for our final cultivating farmers workshop of the season!
This session is designed to help farmers build confidence in navigating the grant-writing process from start to finish. Together, we’ll break down how to find the right funding opportunities, understand what funders are looking for, and craft compelling proposals that reflect your farm’s unique story and impact. We’ll also cover common pitfalls, budgeting basics, and tips for staying organized throughout the application process. Whether you’re applying for your first grant or looking to strengthen your approach, this session will provide practical tools and guidance to help you move from ideas to funded projects.
Following the workshop, there will be an Urban Agriculture Working Group meeting. We will discuss and explore opportunities to support and expand the number and scale of urban agriculture operations throughout Los Angeles County.
This session will also feature a celebration of the community we've built through the Cultivating Farmers Workshop series. We're excited to recognize the journey we've all been on together over the past two years.

Our Speakers:
Elizabeth Bowman is the founder of Lunch Break Consulting where she supports organizations in creating and maintaining human-centered strategies and programs that strengthen community food systems in California and beyond. She previously served as the Interim Executive Director at Food Access LA and oversaw the operation of eight farmers' markets and various food access programs. She is a seasoned grant writer and has supported a number of farms in our region as a grant-writing consultant.
Julieta Muñoz is an urban farmer based in Pomona, CA. She is a graduate from Cal Poly, Pomona with a B.S. in Plant Science and a minor in Soil Science. In 2017, after volunteering at Center Street Community Garden for 3 years, she founded Growing Roots. Julieta chose to pursue urban farming in Pomona because of the strong sense of community in the city and the active organizations striving to localize the food system.
