About Event

Climate Action Club is joining forces with Asian Pacific Environmental Network (APEN), one of California’s first environmental justice organizations, to bring you an exciting opportunity - hopping on an environmental justice walking tour of the historic Oakland Chinatown!

👣 About the Tour

This tour will open up conversations on what environmental inequity looks like in an urban context and how it intersects with issues like gentrification, inequitable development, and privatization of green spaces. Tour guides also will talk about how community organizing has led to the creation of climate resilience projects like low-income housing, the Lincoln climate resilience hub, and accessible parks/recreational space.

🕚 Event Plan:

  • 11am-12:30pm: Tour

  • 12:30pm-1pm: Lunch at a local restaurant

  • 1pm-1:45pm: Discussion groups

  • 1:45pm-2pm: Report back, invitation to sign postcards

🎫 Ticket Info:

Joining the tour is free! For lunch, please expect to spend ~$15-25 per person. We will split the bill after the meal, using Venmo or other payment methods.

The event has limited space. Register now to reserve your spot! If you can't make it, update your RSVP up to 72 hours before the event starts to open spots up for others!

Community Principles

  • Growth Mindset: We are committed to learning together, deepening our understanding of climate challenges, and taking action where we’re best positioned.

  • Relationships, Not Transactions: We prioritize genuine connections over networking for opportunities, recognizing that strong relationships drive lasting change.

  • Inclusivity & Diversity: A range of perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences enriches our community and leads to better engagement and solutions.

  • Mutual Respect: We foster a respectful space where all voices are heard. We may not always agree, but we’re here to learn and grow together.

✊🏼 About APEN

All people have a right to a clean and healthy environment in which their communities can live, work, learn, play and thrive. Towards this vision, APEN brings together a collective voice to develop an alternative agenda for environmental, social and economic justice.

Through building an organized movement, the organization strives to bring fundamental changes to economic and social institutions that will prioritize public good over profits and promote the right of every person to a decent, safe, affordable quality of life, and the right to participate in decisions affecting our lives. APEN holds this vision of environmental justice for all people. The work focuses on Asian immigrant and refugee communities.
