Beyond Hack is a monthly, highly curated meet-up for people building (or aspiring to join) a healthtech startup in Thailand and Southeast Asia. The event designed to create real outcomes: teams formed, pilots unlocked, and startups shaped into investment- and grant-ready companies.
This month's featured speaker — Dr. Kanapon "Tum" Phumratprapin
Dr. Kanapon "Tum" Phumratprapin is co-founder and CEO of Health at Home, which he started in 2015. He is a geriatrician, trained in geriatric medicine in the US, and was working at Bangkok Hospital's Longevity Centre before he left to run the company full time. Health at Home matches families with professional caregivers and adds remote monitoring so patients can recover at home rather than occupy a hospital bed. The service runs on a caregiver workforce the company recruits and trains itself. A second product, Health at Work, takes the same out-of-hospital model to the working-age segment through employers. The company is backed by 500 TukTuks, Fuchsia Venture Capital (Muang Thai Life), and the SME private equity fund run by SET and Government Savings Bank.
Topic: Eleven Years of Health at Home — The Industry, The Team, and The Next Market
A candid fireside chat about the founder journey. Health at Home has been operating since 2015. That is long enough to have been wrong about the market more than once, long enough to have built and rebuilt a team, and long enough to now be moving into a second market.
Some questions we'll cover
On the home care industry
You left a hospital job in 2015. What did you think the home care market was, and what did it turn out to be?
What part of this industry would you warn a new founder about before they commit years to it?
On hiring and co-founders
Your service runs on caregivers. How do you recruit and hold quality across a workforce at that scale?
What were your worst hiring mistakes in the early years, and what do you screen for now because of them?
For a clinician thinking about joining a startup instead of a hospital — what should they be looking for in a team?
On employee benefits
Why move into employee benefits now, after a decade focused on the home care market?
What is different about selling to a HR or corporate buyer compared to selling to a family?
What have you got wrong so far in this new market, and what would you do differently if you started it today?
