A Dilemma for Biological Naturalists About Moral Patiency – Bradford Saad
A Dilemma for Biological Naturalists About Moral Patiency
Presentation by Bradford Saad, researcher in philosophy at NYU and Oxford, and research affiliate at Cambridge Digital Minds
In this talk, I explain why biological naturalism about moral patiency deserves a more prominent role in debates about AI welfare. I then develop a dilemma for the view. Conditional on a physicalist view of consciousness, biological naturalists about moral patiency face one set of challenges; conditional on a non-physicalist view of consciousness, they face another.
