💫 About the Event
Join Marie for a hands-on basketry workshop where you'll learn the timeless craft of weaving with bulrush. In this class, you'll create a beautiful woven piece around a jar while mastering fundamental basketry techniques, including pairing, joining, and finishing with a simple track border. These are essential skills that form the foundation for many baskets!
🧺 What to Bring
• A small jar to weave around (up to 1L)
• A pair of scissors
🌸 What to Expect
This interactive workshop will guide you step-by-step through the weaving process:
• Preparing your base
• Practicing the pairing technique while weaving around your vessel
• Completing your piece with a track border for a polished finish
• Learning about sourcing and collecting your own materials to continue your practice at home
Expect a relaxed, creative atmosphere where you can work at your own pace with plenty of individual guidance and support.
All bulrush and weaving materials are provided.
🫂 Who It’s For
This workshop welcomes both complete beginners and those with some previous weaving experience. Participants aged 12+ are welcome; those under 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian who is also taking the course.
👤 About Your Host — Marie Pariseau of Boreal Basketry
Marie grew up in the Peace River region of northwest Alberta, developing a deep love for forests and plants. She started weaving in 2023 and finds working with natural materials a beautiful way to share her lifelong passion. She’s excited to guide others in connecting with the craft and beauty of basketry.
