Afghanistan: NYC Book Launch, Documentary Premiere & Artist Talk
Join Afghan-American visual artist Daniel Malikyar for an evening celebrating the release of Afghanistan, his new photography book published by teNeues, alongside the premiere of the first episode of his forthcoming documentary series.
Created over several years across Afghanistan, the project offers an intimate look at everyday life beyond the headlines, documenting communities, traditions, and human experiences rarely seen by the outside world.

This is a one-evening event hosted by The Locker Room Gallery

This event is free and open to the public. Guests are encouraged to arrive by 7:30pm to experience the full program.
About the Artist:
Daniel Malikyar is an Afghan-American visual artist working across photography and film. Raised in the United States by Afghan refugee parents, his work explores identity, culture, and representation through long-form visual storytelling.
His projects are rooted in trust, cultural proximity, and extended time in the field, resulting in intimate bodies of work that challenge simplified perceptions of people and places. Through photography and film, Malikyar seeks to reveal the shared humanity that connects us across borders and backgrounds.

Afghanistan is a long-term multimedia project spanning photography, film, and written essays. The work will be presented through a photography book published by teNeues, a documentary series, exhibitions, and educational initiatives supporting emerging Afghan storytellers.
A portion of proceeds from the project support Malikyar’s nonprofit foundation, dedicated to empowering the next generation of Afghan visual storytellers through mentorship, equipment, funding, and creative education.
