Zoom in on ADHD: Building Interoception Skills (Emotions, Feelings and Nervous System Awareness)
This event forms a part of Unfold's ADHD Awareness Month series.
Ever realised you were starving, exhausted or furious only when it was already too much?
Interoception is your brain's ability to notice what's happening inside your body, like hunger, thirst, tension, a racing heart, or the first flicker of an emotion.
For many people with ADHD and other neurodivergent minds, those signals arrive late, faintly, or all at once. This session explores what interoception is, why it can work differently in ND brains, how it connects to emotional overwhelm, and simple, practical ways to start tuning in before you hit the wall.
Kathleen Helm (they/them) is an ICF-certified ADHD specialist coach, neurodiversity trainer and disability activist. They are the founder of Think Kinetic and a Lead Ambassador for ADHD UK, and work across coaching, training, campaigning and public speaking to challenge stigma and improve understanding of neurodivergence and disability.
Kathleen draws on neuroscience to help people understand and support their nervous systems, with a focus on emotional regulation, executive functioning and capacity. Their coaching and training challenge shame and internalised ableism, equipping people to recognise their needs, trust their own judgement and advocate for support.
They also contribute to national disability campaigning and policy work, including through UK Parliament, government, Disability Rights UK and Campaign for Disability Justice. Their work and advocacy have been featured on Sky News, BBC Radio 4 and in The i Paper. They are late-diagnosed autistic and ADHD and bring both professional expertise and lived experience to their work.
Unfold app helps neurodivergent people to process daily challenges and get started when they're feeling stuck.
