About Event

Build an Even Realities App in 1 Day:

Even Realities is considered the "quiet tech" of smart glasses. The G2 model has no camera, a small green display in each lens, controlled via a tap on the frame or with the R1 ring. The Even Hub, where all apps are, opened in April, using web apps written in JavaScript or TypeScript.

If you can build a web app - you can build for the G2.

Raag Harshavat, Developer Relations Lead at Even Realities, will run the sessions and stay for the build. The morning covers the hardware and how to design for its display. You will build an app with a team, and submit for the Even Hub at the end of the day.

Who it’s for

Developers and designers building for smart glasses, and web developers who want to start. No G2 experience needed. Even Realities will provide the glasses.

Schedule

09:30 Doors and pre-flight
Coffee, and a setup desk. We get the Even Hub command-line tool and simulator running on your laptop and switch your account to developer mode.

10:00 Opening
Introductions, and the one rule for the day: everybody will submit an app by EOD.

10:10 The camera-free bet
Why there is no camera, what that means to you, and where G2 and R1 fit (and where they don't).

10:40 First contact
Everyone gets the glasses on. Try three apps already in Even Hub with the ring in hand, and share your experience.

11:20 Designing for a glance
576 by 288 pixels, sixteen shades of green, no animation. Then, a teardown of two Hub apps that handle it well and one that doesn’t.

12:00 Lunch
This one is on us!

12:45 Build kickoff
We'll share starter templates, the simulator, loading your build onto the glasses with a QR code, and how the shared device stations work. Teams of two or three.

13:00 Build
Start building, and the Even Realities team will be available to help. Checkpoint at 14:30, when every team should have something running on the glasses.

15:45 Ship it
Submission time: Package your app, run Even Hub’s quality checklist and send it to review, with the Even Realities team checking it first.

16:15 Demos
Two minutes per team.

16:50 Close
What happens to the submitted apps, and what Even Realities wants built next.

17:00 Borrel
Dutch after-work drinks, in the city.

What to bring

  • A laptop with Node.js 20 or newer

  • Your phone, with the Even Realities app installed and an account set up

We’ll email setup steps once you’re approved, so you can prepare the tools before you arrive.

How to join

Registration needs approval, so registering doesn't guarantee you will have a spot. Members of the VibeGlass community will be prioritized.

Why keep it private?

Our whole approach at VibeGlass is to curate the people in our spaces, to make sure the best discussions are happening, from people who are genuinely interested in smart glasses and actively exploring the space.

What is VibeGlass?

We're a closed community of Smart Glasses developers who are actively building apps for glasses, and actively exploring new models as they come out. We have members from all over the world. To join, share a glasses app you have already built with us, and we'll gladly let you in.
