About Event

Part of the CDT Maker Club August Takeover

Learn the foundations of pattern making and begin developing the practical skills needed to create your own clothes.

Led by Aderinola Oyewole, Director of Heart4design, this hands-on beginner workshop will introduce participants to pattern cutting, drafting and sewing. You will receive step-by-step guidance and practical support throughout the session, helping you build confidence and develop a strong foundation for clothes making.

What you’ll learn

  • The basic principles of pattern making

  • How to take an idea from paper to fabric

  • How to use measurements to draft a simple pattern

  • Essential pattern-cutting techniques

  • How to operate a sewing machine safely

  • Basic sewing skills for garment construction

No previous pattern-making or sewing experience is required.

Duration: 5 hours, including a 15-minute break
Location: Royal Docks Centre for Sustainability

The workshop will use sewing machines and basic pattern-making equipment, including paper, pencils, erasers and rulers. Full guidance on using the sewing machines safely will be provided during the session.

Spaces are limited, so advance registration is required.

About the facilitator

Aderinola Oyewole is the Director of Heart4design. Through practical and supportive teaching, she helps participants develop pattern-cutting and sewing skills while building confidence in clothes making.

The CDT Maker Club August Takeover is a free programme of practical workshops, talks, demonstrations and creative sessions led by members of the UEL and wider Maker Club community.

It offers a welcoming space to learn new skills, test ideas, make practical projects and share knowledge across technology, design, engineering and creative practice.
