About Event

For decades, the U.S. science model was the envy of the world.

Today, however, our research system is bogged down by bureaucracy and facing deep cuts. The past year has brought the biggest shake-up to U.S. science funding in recent memory. Frozen grants, mass agency layoffs, and sweeping political interventions have thrown research universities into turmoil.

To make sense of this moment, join Students for Abundance at Berkeley to discuss with David Trinkle, UC Berkeley’s Director of Research Development, whose career spans the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and the National Science Foundation (NSF).

He’ll explain how the science funding system works – or doesn’t work – in practice and how big national shifts impact the day-to-day lives of Berkeley researchers and students. We’ll also walk through the potential impact of Trump-era cuts, and what they could mean for Berkeley.

All majors and backgrounds are welcome. Sliver Pizza will be served.

Students for Abundance at Berkeley is a new student group committed to bringing the ideas of Abundance to UC Berkeley through education, action, and community-building. Follow us on Instagram or join our Discord community.
