Automated unit testing has become the norm in the software industry, but it can be done well and it can be done poorly. We'll start with an overview of what unit tests are good for, continue with some important do's and don'ts of unit testing, and then address the questions on everyone's minds these days: How has GenAI affected unit testing, and how should we be thinking about unit tests in the age of AI?
Bio
Currently a senior software engineer at Fullpath, where we build AI-based solutions for car dealerships, I've previously worked at Google, Motorola, Facebook, and elsewhere. I've been writing code for 45 years since I was a kid, and unit tests for 25 years, and I have some strong opinions about them.
